| Obverse description | Quartered shield of arms of the Sforza dynasty occupying the central field, surmounted by a ducal crown with foliate ornament; the quarters display the Visconti biscione (serpent devouring a Moor), the Sforza eagle, and related dynastic charges. The shield is set within a beaded inner circle. The circumferential Latin legend reads FRANC SF VICECO DVX MLI, identifying Francesco II Sforza as Duke of Milan. The die-work is characteristic of the Milanese hammered testone tradition of the early sixteenth century, with bold, high-relief rendering of the heraldic devices. |

| Reverse description | Frontal enthroned figure of Saint Ambrose, patron of Milan, depicted in full episcopal vestments including mitre and cope, nimbed, holding a whip or scourge in his raised right hand and a crozier in his left. A small devotional object appears at his feet. The saint is rendered in high relief with considerable sculptural detail in the drapery folds, consistent with the refined Milanese die-engraving of the Sforza period. The surrounding Latin legend, reading SANCTUS AMBROSIUS and divided across the field, encircles the composition within a beaded border. |
