The shield is surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys of Saint Peter, flanked by elaborate foliate mantling. The circular Latin legend, reading PONT MAX and ALEX VII, is distributed across the upper and lower fields respectively, separated by decorative stops, and enclosed within a beaded border. |
