Additional information

Shams al-Din Muzaffar Shah III's reign was the death rattle of an independent Gujarat. He came to power as a puppet restored by rebellious nobles after Akbar's initial annexation in 1572, only to be definitively defeated and killed the following year — ending over 150 years of Gujarat Sultanate coinage in a single campaign. Billon issues from his reign were struck under conditions of political collapse, with no stable mint authority and Mughal forces closing in.

The compressed window of genuine independent issue makes attribution genuinely difficult. Some pieces assigned to this reign may predate Akbar's first intervention in 1572.
