1 Tanka - Nasir Al-Din Mahmud Shah III

Nasir al-Din Mahmud Shah III ruled Gujarat during its terminal decline, a period when the sultanate was squeezed between Mughal expansion from the north and Portuguese naval dominance along the coast. His reign ended in 1554 when Humayun's returning Mughal forces, and then Akbar's consolidation, effectively extinguished Gujarati political independence. Copper tankas from this reign are relatively scarce — the sultanate's administrative apparatus was deteriorating throughout these years, and mint output was neither consistent nor well-documented.
