Beschrijving voorzijde Hammered copper flan bearing a bold multi-line Arabic legend in raised relief, divided horizontally by a central line across the field. The upper register contains the ruler's name and titles in cursive Naskh-influenced script, while the lower register carries additional elements of the royal titulature. The lettering is deeply struck with characteristic Gujarat Sultanate calligraphic style, filling the field to the irregular edge. Surface retains original copper-brown patina with areas of dark encrustation.

Aanvullende informatie

Nasir al-Din Mahmud Shah III ruled Gujarat during its terminal decline, a period when the sultanate was squeezed between Mughal expansion from the north and Portuguese naval dominance along the coast. His reign ended in 1554 when Humayun's returning Mughal forces, and then Akbar's consolidation, effectively extinguished Gujarati political independence. Copper tankas from this reign are relatively scarce — the sultanate's administrative apparatus was deteriorating throughout these years, and mint output was neither consistent nor well-documented.
