Reverse description The reverse retains the original hammered design of the host Tanga coin, featuring a prominent crowned royal monogram, generally identified as that of Dom Miguel I, executed in a bold calligraphic style at the centre of the field. Elaborate foliate and floral arabesque ornaments radiate from the central device, filling the field in the characteristic decorative manner of Portuguese India copper coinage of this period. The flan is irregular in outline, as typical of hammered coinage, with the surfaces displaying the flat, uneven texture consistent with hand-struck copper pieces. No additional legend or inscription accompanies the central monogram on this face.
