| 背面描述 | The reverse features a full-color reproduction of a historical battle painting depicting the Battle of Pichincha of 24 May 1822, showing mounted officers leading uniformed infantry troops across a battlefield under a dramatic sky rendered in vivid polychrome enamel applied within the recessed central field. Two sprigs of laurel in raised relief flank the lower portion of the colorized scene. The curved legend BICENTENARIO DE LA BATALLA DE PICHINCHA arcs along the upper border in raised Latin letters, while the commemorative dates 1822-2022 are inscribed in raised numerals along the lower rim, marking the bicentennial of the engagement. |

The Battle of Pichincha, fought on May 24, 1822, on the slopes of the Pichincha volcano above Quito, secured the independence of the Audiencia de Quito from Spanish rule. The engagement was led by Antonio José de Sucre, whose forces — including a notably international contingent of Venezuelan, Colombian, Peruvian, and Argentine troops — defeated Royalist General Melchor Aymerich in under three hours. Ecuador has commemorated May 24th as a national holiday ever since.
