| Beschrijving keerzijde | The arms of Zeeland occupy the full field: a rampant lion emerging from three horizontal barry wavy lines representing the sea, rendered in high relief consistent with the piedfort's substantial flan. The lion is depicted with its forepaws raised and tongue extended, rising from the waves in the traditional Zeelandic heraldic manner ('luctor et emergo' — I struggle and emerge). The design fills the field to the milled border without a surrounding legend, with no exergue. The bold, deeply struck relief is characteristic of piedfort production at the Middelburg mint. |
