The armorial device is rendered in the hammered style typical of early seventeenth-century Low Countries coinage. A circular Latin legend surrounds the shield in the outer field, reading MONETA · NOVA · ARGENT · D · BAT, denoting the coin as new silver money of Batenburg. The flan is irregular in shape, characteristic of hand-struck coinage of the period. |
