A continuous Latin legend encircles the design, reading ARCHID AVST DVCES BVRG Z COM FLAN Z, identifying the rulers as Archdukes of Austria, Dukes of Burgundy, and Counts of Flanders. Decorative stops punctuate the legend at regular intervals.
