Beschrijving keerzijde A bold long cross pattée divides the reverse field into four quadrants, each containing a grouping of pellets arranged in a triangular pattern, a design derived from the English sterling tradition. An inner beaded circle frames the cross design, while the surrounding Latin legend STERLINGVS is distributed around the periphery. The overall composition reflects the influence of English and Low Countries sterling coinage widely circulated in the Rhineland during the fourteenth century.

Aanvullende informatie

Gottfried III ruled Heinsberg during a period when the lower Rhine lordships were minting small silver sterlings in deliberate imitation of the Aachen pfennig tradition, competing for local commercial acceptance in a region saturated with competing ecclesiastical and secular coinages. The Heinsberg sterlings are documented by Menadier as a distinct, short-lived series tied specifically to Gottfried's tenure — no equivalent issues are attributed to his successors.
