Obverse description Crowned, draped half-bust of King Christian IV facing right, set above an ornate oval cartouche bearing the royal name and titles in abbreviated Latin legend. The bust alone is enclosed within a beaded rope circle, outside of which the king's personal motto is inscribed. The date numerals appear at the bottom of the field, separated by the lobes of the cartouche, while the mintmaster's initials and mint mark appear to either side of the cartouche. The composition is rendered in a richly Baroque style characteristic of early seventeenth-century Danish coinage.
