| Reverse description | The reverse bears the celebrated St. George and the Dragon design in the tradition of Benedetto Pistrucci, depicting an armoured St. George on horseback, his flowing cape billowing behind him as he drives a broken lance downward into the writhing dragon beneath the horse's hooves. The composition fills the central field with powerful sculptural relief, the dragon shown coiled and vanquished below the rearing horse. The bordure carries the motto of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, HONI·SOIT·QUI·MAL·Y·PENSE, in raised letters, with the engraver's initials BP (for Benedetto Pistrucci) visible in the lower field. |
