Obverse lettering ELIZABETH II·DEI·GRA·REGINA·FID·DEF· J.C
(Translation: Elizabeth the Second by the Grace of God Queen Defender of the Faith)
Reverse description The reverse displays the celebrated design of Saint George, helmeted and shown as a muscular bare-chested warrior, mounted on a rearing horse and wielding a broken lance and sword against a writhing dragon beneath the horse's hooves — a composition derived from Benedetto Pistrucci's iconic original of 1817, here re-engraved for contemporary coinage. The dragon is depicted prostrate in the lower field, its wings outstretched and claws extended. The date appears in the exergue below the ground line, flanked by the mintmaster's initials 'B.P.' to the right, referencing the Pistrucci design heritage. The entire composition is unlettered save for the date, occupying a wide, uncluttered field enclosed by a raised beaded border.
