The Royal British Legion connection here is functional, not decorative — a portion of proceeds from this issue was directed toward the RBL's welfare programs, continuing a pattern of Isle of Man commemorative sovereigns used as charitable fundraising instruments since the 1980s. The Isle of Man has struck sovereign-format gold pieces outside the Royal Mint's remit since 1973, exploiting its Crown Dependency status to issue legal tender coinage independently of Westminster.
Charles III's first full commemorative sovereign year, 2023, saw multiple competing issues from various jurisdictions. The Pobjoy Mint, which handled Isle of Man coinage for decades, had by this point been succeeded by other striking arrangements worth verifying against the specific die contract for this issue.
