The Isle of Man has struck sovereign-format gold pieces outside the Royal Mint's remit since 1973, exploiting its Crown Dependency status to issue legal tender coinage independently of Westminster.
Charles III's first full commemorative sovereign year, 2023, saw multiple competing issues from various jurisdictions.
