| Descrizione del dritto | Saint Ambrose seated facing on a throne, depicted in episcopal vestments with mitre and nimbus, holding a crozier in his left hand and raising his right hand in a gesture of benediction. The letters A and Z appear in the field to either side of the enthroned figure, referencing co-ruler Azzone Visconti. A circular legend in uncial Latin script surrounds the central design, invoking the name of the patron saint and the city of Milan. The style is characteristic of northern Italian hammered coinage of the early Trecento, with a flat, schematic treatment of the figural type. |
