| Reverse description | Saints Gervasius and Protasius, patron martyrs of Milan, depicted standing facing, each holding a cross and raising one hand in blessing. The two figures flank a vertical inscription in uncial Latin characters running down the centre of the field. The legend is distributed around and between the figures, incorporating the name of co-ruler Louis of Bavaria (Ludovicus). The composition is typical of Milanese episcopal coinage, presenting the city's dual patron saints in a symmetrical, hieratic arrangement consistent with the hammered silver issues of the Visconti-Wittelsbach joint signoria. |
