Issued as part of Peru's ongoing "Riqueza y Orgullo del Perú" commemorative series, this piece honors the country's 19th-century railway development — particularly the ambitious construction projects driven by U.S.-born engineer Henry Meiggs, who built the Ferrocarril Central Andino through terrain that defeated nearly every contractor before him. At its completion, stretches of the line exceeded 4,700 meters above sea level, making it one of the highest railways in the world.
