The obverse is printed in black with a pink underprint and carries the bank title EL BANCO NACIONAL DEL PERÚ across the top in bold letterpress. A central vignette presents a bust portrait of an indigenous Peruvian woman in traditional attire, flanked on the left by an allegorical female figure with a mirror and on the right by a second allegorical figure holding a trident, both rendered in fine intaglio engraving. The numeral 1 appears in dark guilloche cartouches at each corner, with the denomination text and payment promise inscribed in two columns across the centre, dated Lima, 10 de Febrero de 1877, and bearing two manuscript signatures with printed titles below. |

The reverse is printed in a dark purple-brown tone and consists entirely of intricate lathe-work guilloche patterns arranged symmetrically, with ornate rosette medallions at each corner and an elaborate interlocking geometric border framing the entire note. A large central oval overprint reads EMISIÓN PAGADERA 1877 POR EL GOBIERNO, applied in a bold oval cancellation stamp. The imprint of the American Bank Note Company, New York, appears in small lettering along the lower centre. |
