Obverse description Right-facing draped bust of Queen Elizabeth II, depicting the second portrait as modelled by Arnold Machin, with the Queen wearing a tiara and her hair styled in an elaborate upswept coiffure. The legend 'THE GAMBIA' is divided across the lower field to either side of the effigy, with the date '1966' positioned beneath the legend to the right.
