Filippo I — Don Philip of Bourbon — received the Duchy of Parma and Piacenza in 1748 under the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle, a consolation prize carved out for a younger Spanish Bourbon son after years of Italian reshuffling following the War of the Austrian Succession. The sesino was the smallest denomination his administration produced, a workhorse of local market transactions in a duchy that remained economically modest throughout his reign.
Filippo died in 1765, making the issue span his entire rule as duke.
