| Obverse description | Central field features the crowned Farnese dynastic coat of arms, a quartered shield bearing the characteristic Farnese fleurs-de-lis and additional heraldic charges, draped with elaborate mantle-like mantling on either side. A ducal crown surmounts the shield, rendered with visible arched bands and jewelled decoration. The Latin legend ANTON·I·F·P·P·DVX·VIII· encircles the design, identifying Antonio Farnese as the eighth Duke. The coin's border is defined by a ring of uniform inner beading. The overall die work reflects the provincial baroque engraving style typical of early eighteenth-century Piacenza coinage. |
