The cross is enclosed within a beaded inner border. The surrounding Latin legend, reading clockwise, presents the pious motto: FORTITVDO ET LAVS MEA DOMINV[S], a Scriptural invocation meaning 'The Lord is my strength and my praise' (Exodus 15:2).
