Reverse description A large cross pattee with fleur-de-lis terminals at each arm occupies the centre of the field within a beaded inner circle, the uppermost arm surmounted by an upright fleur-de-lis finial, the whole executed in a bold hammered relief typical of Italian Renaissance feudal gold coinage. The four quadrants formed by the arms of the cross are open and unadorned. The Latin devotional legend AVE CRVX SANTA ET BENEDICTA — Hail, Holy and Blessed Cross — runs continuously around the field between the inner beaded border and the irregular hammered outer rim.
