The keys, arranged in saltire, are rendered in the angular late Gothic style consistent with Livonian hammered billon coinage of the early sixteenth century. A peripheral Latin legend in uncial lettering, separated by stops, records the abbreviated title of the Archbishop of Riga. The design reflects the joint temporal authority of the Archbishop and the Livonian Order over the coin issue. |
