Obverse description Central shield bearing a horizontal architectural gateway motif with a distinctly flat top, divided by a cross with arms extending to the legend border. The shield is rendered in a Gothic heraldic style characteristic of Livonian Order coinage. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, divided into four segments by the cross arms. The overall die work is typical of mid-sixteenth century hammered billon production, with irregular flan edges and moderate relief.

Reverse description Central shield bearing the crossed keys of Riga, the arms of the city, rendered within a beaded inner circle. The keys are depicted in a stylized Gothic manner, crossed in saltire with ornamental bows. A circular Latin legend surrounds the inner circle, incorporating the last two digits of the date. The composition is typical of Riga municipal coinage of the Livonian Order period, with characteristically irregular flan and variable strike quality inherent to hammered production.
