The sword points to the right and the key extends to the lower left, as is conventional for Dorpat schillings of this period. A Latin legend in Gothic-influenced lettering reading MONETA NOVA DARPATENSIS surrounds the central device between the inner and outer beaded borders. The overall style is consistent with hammered Livonian billon coinage of the mid-sixteenth century, showing characteristic weakness of strike and irregular planchet. |
