Obverse description Central field displays a shield bearing the arms of the Livonian Order — a sword erect upon a cross — enclosed within a beaded inner circle. Above the shield, a small globule or orb is visible at the top of the field. The surrounding legend, rendered in Gothic-influenced Latin capitals, runs along the outer margin and reads GOTHART · M · LIVO, identifying Gotthard Kettler as Magister of Livonia. The overall style is typical of late medieval hammered billon coinage, with slightly irregular flan and moderate die wear.
Obverse script Latin
