Central denomination '1' above the inscription 'RUPIE' and the original issue date '1910', all enclosed within a wreath of two symmetrical palm or laurel branches tied at the base with a ribbon bow, their tips meeting at the top of the wreath. The mint mark 'J' (Hamburg) appears below the date at the foot of the wreath. The circumscribed legend 'DEUTSCH OSTAFRIKA' arcs around the upper portion of the coin within a beaded border, identifying the colonial issuing authority. |

This is a modern replica of the German East Africa Rupie issued during Wilhelm II's colonial administration of Deutsch-Ostafrika, a territory administered by the Deutsch-Ostafrikanische Gesellschaft until the imperial government assumed direct control in 1891. The original Rupie coinage was struck in silver at the Hamburg Mint and circulated alongside Indian and Zanzibari currency across the territory until British forces seized the colony during the First World War. The replica dates to 2004, well outside any numismatic issue tied to a governing authority.
