The inscription "SATU RUPIAH" appears in bold letterpress below the central vignette, with the authority text "BERLAKU UNTUK SUB PROPINSI SUMATERA SELATAN" across the upper portion beneath the header "REPUBLIK INDONESIA / TANDA PEMBAJARAN JANG SAH". The serial number, place and date "BUKITTINGGI, 1.1.1948" are printed below, along with the manuscript signature of the Governor of Sumatra. |

The overall design is simple and typographic, relying on the dense wave-pattern guilloche for visual security. |
