Shujah Shah's first reign lasted only five years before he was deposed by his half-brother Mahmud Shah in 1809, making coinage from this period inherently short-run. He would reclaim the throne briefly in 1839 with British East India Company backing during the First Anglo-Afghan War, but the rupees of that second reign are cataloged separately. KM#153 belongs exclusively to the earlier period, struck at Kabul under a ruler whose political grip was never secure.
