Obverse description The obverse bears a multi-line calligraphic Persian inscription in Nasta'liq script, filling the entire field within an oval or cartouche frame. The legend reads the royal sikka formula proclaiming the coin struck by the order of Mahmud Shah, 'master of the world,' with divine blessing, and includes the regnal year 1220 AH. The inscription is rendered in bold, flowing calligraphy characteristic of early 19th-century Afghan coinage, with decorative floral or foliate elements filling the surrounding field. The coin's irregular flan reflects the hammered production technique typical of this period.
