A Nagari legend reading 'Sri Daud Sahi' appears at the bottom of the obverse, reflecting the bilingual character of Bengal Sultanate coinage intended for both Muslim and Hindu subjects. | Opis rewersu | Central square frame contains the Kalima-i-Shahada, the Islamic declaration of faith: 'La ilaha illallah Muhammadun Rasulullah' (There is no god but Allah; Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah), arranged within the square. Around the corners of the central square appear the names of the first four Rightly Guided Caliphs of Islam — Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, and Ali — a standard formulaic arrangement frequently encountered on medieval Indo-Muslim coinage. The overall layout follows the established convention of Bengal Sultanate rupees, with the square-within-circle compositional scheme typical of the period. |
