Obverse description The obverse field is entirely occupied by a two-line Persian calligraphic legend in bold Nasta'liq script, separated by a horizontal incuse line dividing the field into upper and lower registers. The upper register carries the first hemistich of the royal couplet proclaiming the coin struck like the radiant sun, while the lower register bears the imperial titulature naming Shah Aurangzeb Alamgir. Small lozenge-shaped ornamental devices punctuate the legend, and a partial regnal year numeral appears along the lower rim, characteristic of the hammered Mughal rupee tradition.
