| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse is entirely covered with multi-register Persian and Arabic calligraphy in Naskh script, filling the field to the rim in the characteristic Mughal hammered rupee style. The uppermost register bears the epithet 'Nasir al-Dunya wa'l-Din' (Helper of the World and the Faith), followed by the full imperial titulature of the emperor: 'Jalal al-Din Muhammad Akbar Badshah Ghazi.' The regnal Hijri year appears in a central register, varying according to the year of issue. The lowest register records the mint name 'Zarb Jaunpur' (Struck at Jaunpur), identifying the place of manufacture. The entire design is conceived as a calligraphic composition with no figurative elements, consistent with orthodox Islamic numismatic convention. |
