Oman's National Day commemoratives have been issued with considerable regularity since the 1970s, but the 45th anniversary issue marks one of the last such pieces struck while Qaboos bin Said was in visibly robust health — he died in January 2020 after a prolonged illness that had kept him largely out of public view since 2014. The .999 fineness rather than the more common .925 was a deliberate upgrade for this series, reflecting the Central Bank's push to attract bullion-oriented collectors in the Gulf market.
