Additional information

Markus Sittikus von Hohenems was elected Archbishop of Salzburg in 1612 after the death of Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau, who had been deposed and imprisoned by Bavarian forces the previous year — a remarkably turbulent transfer of power even by the standards of prince-archbishoprics. The klippe format, with its square-cut planchet, was used for presentation and reckoning pieces rather than ordinary commerce, placing this squarely outside everyday circulation from the moment of striking.

The Zöttl reference numbers spanning three entries suggest minor die variations across the issue's short window.
