1 Real small type

Chile's post-independence silver fractional coinage was produced at the Santiago mint under a series of assayer partnerships whose initials appear on the coins and help narrow individual pieces to specific years within the series. The "small type" distinction for KM#94.2 separates it from the earlier large-type 1 Real by a reduction in the lettering and design elements, a modification introduced as the Santiago mint refined its die-cutting practices through the 1840s.

Production ran through a politically turbulent decade that included the conservative consolidation under Manuel Bulnes and the early stirrings of the 1851 civil war.
