Reverse description A bold Jerusalem Cross divides the field into four quadrants, with each quadrant containing alternating castles and lions of the Spanish Royal Arms — castles (for Castile) in the upper-left and lower-right quadrants, and rampant lions (for León) in the upper-right and lower-left quadrants. The cross is rendered in the distinctive squared style of the period, with the arms extending nearly to the coin's irregular flan edge. A partial circular legend runs around the periphery, partially visible on the preserved portions of the planchet. The strike is characteristically uneven, consistent with the hand-hammered macuquina cob technique employed at the Potosí mint.
