| توضیحات پشت سکه | Central field features a simplified, stylized conch shell (sankha) rendered in bold relief, with a smooth curved body and a pronounced curved spout or horn extending to the lower left. To the upper right of the conch, two isolated raised pellets are visible in the field. Below the conch, a prominent rectangular arrangement of twelve or more large raised pellets fills the lower half of the field, possibly representing a conventional symbol of value or denomination. The design is enclosed within a continuous border of large raised pellets, consistent with the hammered technique and indigenous iconographic tradition maintained under Dutch East India Company coinage at Cochin. |

The VOC struck these small copper pieces for use in Cochin (present-day Kochi) following the Dutch capture of the port from the Portuguese in 1663. Cochin was a critical node in the pepper and spice trade, and the Company needed local denominational coinage that would circulate comfortably alongside indigenous rasi units already familiar to traders on the Malabar Coast. The series ran for over six decades under VOC authority until the early eighteenth century, an unusually long production span for a colonial merchant issue.
