| Beschrijving keerzijde | The arched entrance doorway of the Pretoria Mint building is depicted in high relief at centre, its stone arch and fanlight rendered in fine architectural detail, with radiating lines extending to the milled border to divide the field into quadrants. Four circular medalets, each reproducing a historic South African coin design, are positioned at the upper-left, upper-right, lower-left, and lower-right quadrants, featuring respectively a horseman, a protea flower, a sailing ship, and a plant motif. The founding year 1923 appears to the left and the jubilee year 1973 to the right of the central arch. The denomination 1 RAND is inscribed in bold letters in the lower field, with the engraver's initials T.S. below the arch. |
