| Reverse description | The reverse presents two facing busts of the Apostles Saints Peter and Paul, depicted in close proximity at the center of the field, rendered in a simplified but recognizable style characteristic of hammered Papal copper coinage of the seventeenth century. Saint Peter is traditionally distinguished on the left and Saint Paul on the right. A horizontal exergual line divides the field from the lower portion, where the mint name ROMA appears, identifying the Rome Mint as the place of issue. The surrounding circular legend reads S PETRVS + S PAVLVS ROMA, invoking the patron saints of the city. The overall die work reflects the modest artistic ambition typical of low-denomination quattrini struck for everyday circulation. |
