| Descrizione del rovescio | A floriated or ornamented cross occupies the central field, its arms terminating in trefoil or fleur-de-lis flourishes, a design characteristic of Papal States subsidiary coinage of the early sixteenth century. The cross divides the field into four quarters, with pellets or small ornamental devices visible between the arms. A circular Latin legend surrounds the cross, readable around the periphery of the irregularly struck flan. The workmanship reflects the hammered technique typical of Italian billon issues of this period. |

Leo X granted Piacenza to the Papal States in 1512 after the city was seized from the Sforza-controlled Duchy of Milan during the upheaval surrounding the War of the League of Cambrai. This quattrino belongs to the very first years of direct papal administration, issued before the city's monetary arrangements had fully stabilized under Rome's authority.
