Reverse description A lion rampant to the left occupies the central field, its head turned to face the viewer in full front (en face), with a banner or standard held between its raised forelegs. The design is a bold heraldic device, typical of Bolognese civic coinage, executed in the hammered style with characteristic unevenness of relief. The field is plain with no legend or border inscription, and the planchet edges are irregular as expected for this series.
