| Beschrijving keerzijde | Draped bust of Saint Peter facing right, depicted with curly hair and wearing apostolic vestments, rendered in the provincial Roman Baroque style characteristic of Gubbio mint issues. The circumferential Latin legend S PETRVS AP, separated by pellet stops, identifies the apostle and encircles the bust. The reverse field is plain, and the overall strike displays the soft, uneven relief typical of mid-18th century hammered papal copper coinage from this mint. A toothed border runs along the rim. |

Benedict XIV — Prospero Lambertini — governed the Papal States with a pragmatism unusual for eighteenth-century pontiffs, negotiating concordats with several European powers and tolerating Enlightenment scholarship to a degree that earned him admirers from Voltaire to Frederick the Great. Gubbio, a minor papal mint in Umbria, continued striking small copper issues throughout his long pontificate largely to serve local market transactions that silver simply wasn't worth supplying.
