Beschrijving voorzijde Central device depicting a ladder (the heraldic scala of Verona, emblem of the della Scala family) with two small pellets positioned below, all enclosed within an inner beaded or reeded circle. The design is rendered in a bold, low-relief hammered style characteristic of late 14th-century Italian billon coinage. A partial legend in uncial Latin characters runs within the outer field along the coin's circumference. The irregular flan edges and typical striking weakness of the period are consistent throughout.

Aanvullende informatie

Verona passed briefly through the hands of the Scaligeri before Gian Galeazzo Visconti absorbed it into his expanding Lombard domain in 1387, making this the final coinage struck under della Scala authority. The joint invocation of Bartholomew II and his nephew Anthony mirrors the uneasy co-rulership that Gian Galeazzo exploited — he had Bartholomew arrested and executed before the year was out.

Biaggi 2980 is among the scarcer Scaligeri minor denominations, surviving primarily in well-worn condition given the billon's low silver content and the political disruption that ended production abruptly.
