Opmerkingen

Trans-Canada Tobacco operated in the mid-twentieth century Canadian cigarette market, where premium coupon schemes were a standard competitive tool used to retain brand loyalty against American imports and larger domestic rivals. These coupons were redeemable for merchandise from printed catalogues — a system borrowed directly from American tobacco premiums that had been running since the late nineteenth century.

At 74 x 67 mm, this is closer to square than any conventional currency format, which reflects its purely functional origin as a redeemable voucher rather than anything modeled on banknote production practices.
