The date EDINBURGH 1st JUNE 1966 appears to the upper right, with two signature panels below for the Governor and Treasurer & General Manager, serial number A/R 0469849 repeated at left and right, and the denomination £1 in ornate cartouches at lower corners; the note perimeter carries a repeated ONE POUND letterpress border. |

The composition is symmetrically flanked by two boldly engraved Scottish thistle sprays and, at each lower corner, an ornate £1 denomination panel. The bank motto TANTO UBERIOR appears on a scroll above the shield, and the overall design is executed in a fine-line engraving style without additional colour or text border. |
