| Description de l’avers | The obverse is printed in brown and blue on white paper, with the bank title BANK OF SCOTLAND rendered in large serif capitals across the top. The central vignette consists of a blue oval intaglio medallion with a classical allegorical figure, flanked by the promise-to-pay text in italic script: 'The Governor & Company of the Bank of Scotland Promise to pay here to the Bearer on Demand One Pound Sterling.' The date EDINBURGH 1st JUNE 1966 appears to the upper right, with two signature panels below for the Governor and Treasurer & General Manager, serial number A/R 0469849 repeated at left and right, and the denomination £1 in ornate cartouches at lower corners; the note perimeter carries a repeated ONE POUND letterpress border. |

| Description du revers | The reverse is printed entirely in golden-brown intaglio on uncoloured paper, with a large central vignette of a fully-rigged sailing ship within a rope-bordered oval medallion, surmounted by the Bank of Scotland heraldic shield bearing the saltire. The composition is symmetrically flanked by two boldly engraved Scottish thistle sprays and, at each lower corner, an ornate £1 denomination panel. The bank motto TANTO UBERIOR appears on a scroll above the shield, and the overall design is executed in a fine-line engraving style without additional colour or text border. |
